This is the alternate opening scene from Quentin Tarantino's 1997 movie Jackie Brown. It's sort of in a class by itself because it's not as cartoony as his other films but because of the mostly Black cast, this did not receive as much media attention (yep...I said it).
When I was updating my other blog, Ol Skool Black Flix, I ran across this and was really happy he did not go with this.
And I am a fan of his but this opening would have cost him. Here's why -
In this flick, Pam Grier is a 40+ y.o. flight attendant. Been in the game for years but because she caught a case, she makes less than $20K annually at the only airline that will hire her. So to make ends meet, she has to move money through customs (this is where Mr. Samuel L. comes into the picture). So she's too young to retire and not motivated (or maybe schedule conflicts) enough to go to night school to improve her situation.
This sucks so her original entrance is standing still on a people-mover while a Bobby Womack song plays - for about 5-6 minutes.
I know if I had a situation like this one, old blues songs would go through my head, also.
